Painting in San Jose, from bungalows to hillside homes
San Jose is home base for De La Mora Painting, and with roughly a million residents spread over dozens of neighborhoods, painting needs change a lot from one street to the next. Willow Glen is known for its 1920s through 1940s bungalows with wood siding and original trim. The Rose Garden area has early-1900s Craftsman and Tudor-style homes. Further out, Cambrian and Blossom Valley are largely post-war tract neighborhoods, and Almaden Valley and Evergreen mix larger, newer homes with hillside lots.
That mix means the same paint job is rarely the same twice. A Willow Glen bungalow may need years of old paint scraped and its wood trim carefully repaired. A 1960s ranch in Cambrian is more likely to have stucco walls, original cabinets and a sprayed popcorn ceiling that has never been touched. An Almaden Valley home may have tall walls, stairs and a big entry that need scaffolding and a more detailed plan.
Gabriel quotes each project personally after seeing it, so the plan reflects your house, your neighborhood and the condition of the surfaces, not a generic checklist.

Old bungalows need layered prep
In Willow Glen and the Rose Garden, decades of repaints mean scraping, sanding and repairing wood trim. Homes built before 1978 may also have lead-based paint, which changes how surfaces are prepared, so tell us when your house was built.
Stucco is the standard exterior
Most San Jose homes outside the older neighborhoods are stucco, so hairline cracks need to be filled and sealed before painting or the new paint fails early.
Post-war tract homes keep original ceilings
Neighborhoods built on former valley orchards in the 1950s through 1970s often still have sprayed acoustic ceilings, which makes removal and texture work a natural add-on to a repaint.
Dry summers, wet winters
The best exterior season is roughly May through October. Winter rains from about November through April limit outside work, so book early if you want a summer exterior.
ADUs and remodels
San Jose has many backyard units and whole-house remodels, and fresh drywall needs the right primer, texture and finish coats to look even.
HOA and condo communities
Townhome and condo communities often require approved colors, so check with your HOA and tell us if a submittal is needed before work starts.
Painting in San Jose: FAQs
Do you paint in neighborhoods like Willow Glen, Almaden Valley and Evergreen?
Yes. De La Mora Painting is based in San Jose and works across the city. Tell us your neighborhood when you call and we will walk the project with you.
What is the best time of year to paint a house exterior in San Jose?
The dry months, roughly May through October, are the most reliable. Winter rain limits exterior work, so book early if you want an exterior done during the dry season.
Can you handle older bungalows with many layers of paint?
Yes. Older homes need more scraping, sanding and repair before painting, and homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, which affects the prep method. Tell us the age of the house when you request a quote.
Do you paint ADUs and newly remodeled rooms?
Yes. New drywall needs primer and the right finish coats, and we can finish and paint walls and ceilings on a remodel or ADU so everything matches.
